West End Community Homelessness

West End Community Homelessness

By Candis Hunter – Outreach Ministry

More than 10,000 people in metro Atlanta  experience homelessness on any given night, with more than 40 percent being women and children. At St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in the West End, we often see the faces that comprise that chilling statistic in our immediate church vicinity. We may think that the homelessness problem is not our responsibility  or too complicated to solve, but our baptismal call prompts us to serve our Savior by first serving others (Matthew 25:45).

The Catholic Social Teaching- Option for the Poor and Vulnerable -emphasizes that “A basic moral test is how our most vulnerable members are faring…Jesus instructs us to put the needs of the poor and vulnerable first.”

I invite you serve the poor and vulnerable through our upcoming fall 2014 build with Atlanta Habitat for Humanity.
Atlanta Habitat for Humanity partners with working families, sponsors, and communities to build affordable, green, quality homes and to provide support services that promote successful home purchase and ownership.

The St. Anthony of Padua Community Outreach Ministry encourages all parishioners to participate in and donate for the Habitat for Humanity build in collaboration with other local churches. Our church needs to raise $5,000 to participate in this effort.

We are asking for sponsor commitments at the following levels:
  • Bronze Level: $5-$100
  • Silver Level: $101-$300
  • Gold Level: $301-$500
  • Platinum Level: $501-$1,000+
In the fall 2014, there will be weekly offertory announcements for Habitat for Humanity build donations along with Habitat for Humanity build participant online sign-up sheets and sign-up sheets in the back of the church.
(All Habitat for Humanity tax-deductible donations should be made payable to “St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church” with “Habitat for Humanity” in the memo line).
